students who encounter the toughest challenges and for programs to prepare our see stew our students for the workforce. well, the water is back on in baltimore county. baltimore city department of public works spokesman tells us the entire area from lake avenue to parts of scar and from falls road has service again. there are a few things you do need to remember. the water may be cloudy when you turn it on at first. don't worry, run it for a couple of minutes and it will clear up. a chlorine smell is normal and you do not have to boil your water. . no doubt it was another beautiful day in our area. quite a bit cooler than yesterday but still nice. but could the cool temperatures be heading in another direction? wyatt everett is here with our forecast. >> the direction is right at us.

we're had another day in the mid-80s but temperatures will begin to drop off as we go into the overnight period. take a look at what's coming our way. the radar, look all the way to the very left of your screen, you see a line of thunderstorms just beginning to push into the hagerstown area. that is headed in our direction. in the meantime it will be warm and windy. wind gusts up to 30 to 40 miles per hour. temperatures in the low 80s, still way above average. the rest of the overnight period will look like this: showers and storms moving our way, windy conditions in the evening, and we'll be cooling down rapidly as we push toward friday. much more about friday, weekend, and opening day, what that looks like, all coming up. tonight baltimore city police are investigating the murder of a 72-year-old man, charles bowman was shot to death inside this yow brother's carryout. he was getting food on his way

to his job where he worked as a security guard. two people came in to rob it and ended up killing bowman. call crime stoppers if you have any information. a baltimore city firefighter remains in the hospital tonight. he suffered burned hands and other injuries while fighting a house fire in liberty heights last night. he fell from the second floor of the house while trying to help put out the fire. two women were taken to the hospital with injuries from second degree burns to smoke inhalation. investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire. the latest developments on the west virginia mine explosion. rescuers were forced to pull back after they encountered dangerous levels of gasses. crews entered the mine before 5

after air samples indicated methane gas levels had dropped enough. they carried 30 pound oxygen tanks and traveled 5 miles into the mine. >> we're going into an atmosphere in part of the area that has been -- that has carbon monoxide levels that poses a risk if you pop your mask off. >> family and friends of the missing miners held a candle light vigil last night praying for a miracle. despite the evacuation this is still a rescue mission. well, he says he was joking, but those on board a washington to denver flight weren't laughing. a passenger grabbed a smoke in the bathroom and joked about a shoe on fire triggered a bomb

scare. two federal air marshals on board the flight demanded to know what was going on. after his response, restrained him according to this woman whose husband was on the plane. >> they thought maybe he tried to ignite something. >> none of this is going to be taken as anything less than dead seriousness. you make the wrong comment at the wrong time and you're going to come off the airplane in chains. >> he was not charged because of his diplomatic immunity. but the embassy will likely fire him over the incident and state department officials say he was traveling for a visit to see an al-qaeda agent in jail. a man in northern california is in jail after being accused of making threats to u.s. house speaker nancy pelosi over her vote on the health care reform debate. police arrested giusti after he made dozens of threatening calls to pelosi's home and office. he even had a conversation with

pelosi on the telephone telling her if she ever wanted to see her home again, she should vote against the health care bill. two officers were honored for helping to solve the murders of three children. they received the i wards for the key roles they played in investigating the deaths of children last year. batcho helped get a confession from myers, convicted of setting his girlfriend's house on fire killing her two daughters. and fogel ran the search operation for sarah foxwell. she was abducted and killed in december. baltimore police commissioner has suspended the weekly meeting where commanders share intelligence and pour over statistics. it's known as comstat and it has been a key part of the crime fighting strategy since 1999 when it was introduced by then mayor martin o'malley. a department spokesman says

comstat has become stale and laborious and they'll spend the next 30 days considering ways to revamp it. the meetings are often turned into finger pointing sessions. if you're traveling to i-695 expect changes at the charles street interchange area. the shared ramp which extend to westbound i-69 and northbound i-83 will be temporarily shut down. the two-way section of the ramp will remain open for access to business and medical offices. your car could become a no phone zone. we're one step closer to the ban on cell phones, coming up. and two girlfriends take on a challenge that will put their bodies to the test but there will be no losers in this

. a look at news around the nation takes us to california where investigators are searching through garbage at a landfill looking for a newborn baby. police suspect the 15-year-old mother may have thrown it away after hiding the pregnancy from her parents. they have not found the baby yet. the young mother is not under arrest but in the custody of her parents. a florida man was hit by a

ayrie. it starts to look stormier out to the west and that's because that's exactly what's headed our way. so, mid-80s for highs from our weather net sites today. closer to 90 toward bethesda, millersville, more loe 80s extending towards skyesville. you see these high temperatures state wide running in the low to mid-80s. 84 bwi, going to be it for us today. but all in all, an above-average day by 20 degrees. tomorrow will be about 25 degrees cooler so you will notice the change big-time. you can see out in western maryland, oakland, out deep deep creek lake, down into the 50s. that's the cool air punching in. ahead of the cooler air, wind gusts, powerful. sailing weather, good, 26 from baltimore, 32-mile-per-hour out at dulles. skies finding that line of storm just about into hagerstown now. so if you're headed west later

this evening you're going to run right into it. the heavier storms will be north of the pennsylvania line at least for the next hour or so. large line of showers and storms that take you out wider you can see what's going on here. big shot of much cooler air leading to the storms. right now back across chicago into the midwest, way cooler. we're talking highs in the 50s today. that is pushing through later tonight. going to give you a reality check temperaturewise. but ahead of it, strong south wind keeping things warm. chicago into the 30s today, and louisville 61. that's more like where we are later this week. you can see midnight is where we'll see most of this in baltimore. by 6:00 friday morning, the roads may be damp but i think most of us are looking at a relatively pain-free commute weatherwise. it will be breezy and cooler

greater risk for men. >> reporter: obstructive sleep apnea or osa is a common dis order disorder. a study showed that middle age men with sleep apnea are more likely to suffer a stroke, the second leading cause of death worldwide. researchers followed more than 5,000 participants aged 40 or older with no history of the disorder. they found that over nine years men with mild sleep apnea were more likely to have a stroke and those with moderate to severe sleep apnea ran three times the risk of having a stroke. among women the risk increased significantly only with those with severe sleep apnea. these results were independent of other risk factors such as weight, high blood pressure, race, smoking, and diabetes.

researchers say the disparity may be because men develop it at an earlier age. they found that untreated apnea is linked to high blood pressure, heart attack, heart failure and death from any cause. with this medical minute, i'm dr. timothy johnson. and also in tonight's health alert, april is std awareness months. the cdc says sexually transmitted diseases are among the rise among 15 to 24-year-olds. 80% of stds do not have any symptoms at all and in some cases stds can cause infertility. apple upgrades its iphone and its ipad. find out how the changes are going to affect your service. that's coming up at 5:30, which starts in just two minutes.

. ah, yes, summer-like temperatures for another day in our area. it's been beautiful outside. a live picture of downtown baltimore there, but how long will this weather stick around? good evening, everyone, i'm roosevelt leftwich. wyatt is here with your forecast. >> we have big changes this evening. we have showers and storms developing out in western maryland. some of this activity severe. let's take you into it and show you what it looks like. you can see the line pushing in out of the west, and that's going to kind of continue to be something we have to watch into the evening. right now the baltimore area looking fine for probably another hour or so at least. but you can see here this particular cell will be moving toward carroll county very shortly here and also toward the frederick area. this is a severe thunderstorm cell packing winds up to 50
